winter episodes by easternBloc winter episodes by easternBloc
Well well well what a dismal scene depicting the events on 24th december...Sinister beings (elves? who knows what are on his payroll after all these centuries) emerge from their year-long hibernation and roam the desolate Lapland do what? who knows! we fear to discuss such things...ominous mountains and forebidding forests loom in the background...and there! doest thou witness a sinister man of suspiciously rotund proportions stalking the landscape!! tremble as he approacheth his horned beasts! what happens next? where doth he go? we fear to discuss such things...

Been messing around in Illustrator instead of doing work. Had a sudden urge to draw winter landscapes. I added the Santa guy, originally intended as a seperate drawing. "Yo ho ho" is what he says.

Anyway, Happy Christmas!! Hope you get what you waaant =P

Awesome work- Santa turned out great, I can imagine him loping along. The mountains and the sky are my favorite part- great colors. Also I like how wide it is, as I scroll across my screen from right to left, it's a little creepy :D

Yeah I originally stacked the images on top of one another, but I prefer the widescreen version too :D

Man, I love the whole sillhouetty look of this picture, as well as the colour scheme. Red and purple! my favourites. :XD: :w00t:

And that Santa; OMG BEST! :mwahaha: :giggle:

Can I use this as a nice, demented Xmas card? I've been looking for one in this sorta style in card shops everywhere, but all they sell is the glittery, fluffy-bunny kind. :XD: :plotting:

Merry Christmas! :santa: :rudolph: :xmas: Only one week left to go. ;P

Heh heh, yeah of course you can use it for a card! I'm flattered! I might actually use it for a card myself now you mention it :)
(My only tiny request is that you put a small credit somewhere on the back. Thanks)
Merry Xmas and thanks for the fav!

OK, I'm officially creeped out by your Santa... but I totally dig the elves and I thikn the reindeer are what I like best here. Killer color scheme, and (not sure if this makes much sense) great angles and shapes... This rocks.

Thanks! I like the reindeer too. And yes, the last comment makes total sense - the whole excersize was really about angles and shapes - and I'm glad you picked up on that :) I'm quite a fan of German Expressionism (films from the 1920s like Nosterafu, Der Golem etc...) so I was trying to create that feel for the picture. That, and creep people out ;)

Ah, I'm not so good at making those connections, but now you've said something I can totally see it. Fritz Lange and Otto Preminger were big on this kind of imagery too, I think... and you definitely captured that feel. Nice work.
